Meant To Be 04:20
1. I found the one that I’ve been searching for I’ve found someone to whom I can give more More than I gave to those other girls More than I’ll give anyone else in the world C. I’ve, I’ve found the one for me But she can’t seem to see That we were meant to be 2. I’ll take her bad points and all of the rest I love her so much it’s gonna burst out my chest I’m gonna love her with all of me soul I’m gonna love her if I lose control C. 3. I’m gonna love her til 2 is 1 I’m gonna love her til after we’re gone She’s never known a love like mine A love that’ll last for all time C. M8. I love my love Does she love me? 4. She tells me stop, but my love is true I couldn’t change if I wanted to She tells me no, but my love is strong I know I’m right, and she is wrong 5. She called the law said I was hanging round From this one conclusion I have found She won’t find herself a better man And if I can’t have her, no one can C. C2. Take, take my life from me If she can’t seem to see That we were meant to be

Fragile 03:41
1. I’m too fragile to be dreaming of you It’s not worthwhile to me, and harmful it’s true But I know what to do 2. It’s simple mathematics, you’re gonna hurt when you fall I’ll just be laughing at it, cos I still recall It endures through it all C. You sang to me, sang that you were the one 3. And death before dishonour was your calling card You said I’d be your fella, but staying is hard It left us burnt and charred C. Repeat v1. 4. You waxed a lyric, dearly, of a love that won’t die Then gave it up so freely, never saw you try Or shed a tear and cry C. Repeat v4.

In England 03:00
1. It’s grey when it rains In the backstreets and lanes Of Swalwell Red brick shining wet As I try to forget That I’m falling ‘low dull chimney stack A mood hued black Is calling It’s grey when it rains In the backstreets and lanes Of Swalwell When the rain comes down, and you’re workward bound, and you're stalling It’s easy to be, lost in melancholy, in Swalwell 2. It’s blue when it rains O’er fences and chains In Gateshead Nowt but regret And a drink and a bet Getting wasted Ambition, it fails And colour, it pales Bitter tasted It’s blue when it rains O’er fences and chains In Gateshead The rain’s wet haze, and sad lost days, are hastened It’s easy to be, lost in melancholy, in Gateshead M8. I pray that Tuesday morning will end soon In my heart it’s forever Friday afternoon Lost in the toon End this day soon Please soon 3. It’s black when it pours On the windows and doors Of England The Manchester rain Sweet lonely pain Is demanded Longing by night And longing by light Never ended It’s black when it pours On the windows and doors Of England When thunder crashes, and the downpour lashes, can’t stand it It’s easy to be, lost in melancholy, in England

about

Biography / Interview (by Danart Lasseter):

Pete Beat is a songwriter and producer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. It’s been over two years since his last release, but his new Meant To Be EP is due out on 20 July 2015. I caught up with him at home and asked a few questions about the forthcoming EP.

DL: Why so long since the last release?

PB: I guess you’re always developing, but I’ve written and recorded over 120 songs since then. I’m getting better, and it’s been this long for me to get three songs I’ve been happy enough with, and fit together as a unit.

DL: When did you start writing music?

PB: I played the organ as a kid. I was making tunes on my Amiga in the 90s when I was at school. Then I moved onto house and breakbeat tunes. I had a few small scale releases starting in 2006. However in 2009, while recovering from a rather acute bout of mental illness, I had a bit of time on my hands and started writing proper songs with lyrics on the guitar. In recent years I’ve been working harder on it – I can’t stop myself these days.

DL: Who inspires you to make music?

PB: My two musical heroes are Brian Wilson and Morrissey, both geniuses – you only get one of them a generation.

DL: How do you start recording a song?

PB: Sometimes I have an idea for a sound – a warm backdrop with sparkling lights in the foreground – I can see the sound I want rather than hear it. Other times I think of a fragment of melody or a short lyric, and build it from there. Other times I just sit down at the computer and start making beats, trying out new drum kits.

DL: Describe the new EP

PB: I guess you’d call it ‘electronic pop’. It’s fairly funky, lots of warm and wonderful synth sounds, that’s the kind of thing I like. It varies between sounding a bit like dance music in the first track Meant To Be, to something more akin to ‘electronic folk’ on In England, the last of the three tunes on the EP.

DL: What does the future hold?

PB: I’m getting better and writing and recording all the time – and averaging about 60 recordings a year at the moment. Who knows, maybe I’ll get bored with it one day but for now it’s all about developing my skills and making better music.

At the moment, I work alone, but I would like to work with other artists too, helping them in the studio as a collaborator or producer.

So watch this space, but I think it will be less than 2 years until you hear from me this time.
